Dr. Manuel A. Castro Board Certified Internist Dr. Castro was born and raised in the Dominican Republic where he finished medical school at Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena in 1983 and completed all his requirements for obtaining a license in his country, he then moved to the United States to pursue further medical training. He passed his United States Medical License examination on a single try. After his residency from 1994-997 in internal medicine at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago he passed his boards of Inernal Medicine in 1997, and has successfully recertified again in 2007. He had extensive training in multiple medical conditions including extensive post-graduate training in HIV and AIDS. At that time HIV was not a treatable disease so he had an opportunity to treat patients with life threatening complications of HIV and AIDS that can now usually be managed and controlled by the HIV drugs now available. After his residency Dr. Castro moved to Miami, FL and became a teaching attending for the internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, with a title of voluntary assistant professor at University of Miami. He was in charge of the outpatient clinics, teaching physicians training in internal medicine. Dr. Castro also has multiple experiences in other areas of medicine, Dr. Castro became certified in Occupational Medicine by the State of Florida and was a certified Medical Review Officer in occupational medicine. He was in charge of the employee health center at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach where he treated most of Miami-Dade employees including firefighters and policemen who sustained injuries at their work. Afterwards Dr. Castro worked at Pasteur Medical Center doing primary internal medicine mostly for elderly patients.
In 2005, Dr. Castro moved to Wilton Manors, FL and opened a private practice in internal medicine treating a whole array of medical problems and conditions, including HIV/AIDS, hypertension, diabetes and managing patients with STD’s. He is also certified in multiple cosmetics procedures including Botox and Dermal Fillers. Dr. Castro has been actively teaching medical students since 1994. During his residency he taught students for podiatry medicine at the Schull School of Podiatry and he taught students at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Upon moving to Miami, FL, he became a teaching attendant at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Since 2000, Dr. Castro also works with Kaplan Medical on a part-time basis training physicians who are in the process of obtaining certification with the United States Medical Licensing Exam. Dr. Castro has many interests which include, among other things, windsurfing, music, piano, computer programming, health and fitness, tennis, and weightlifting.
